3 Questions To Fire Up Your Motivation

Many friends of mine, as well as people who I meet me for the first time often ask me “where do you find all this energy and motivation?”

I do believe there are people who are “naturally” more positive than others, and I consider myself lucky to be one of those people. Truth is though… this positive energy is not always there.

I revealed, in this post, one of the secrets about how I take courage in a scary situation! And I often use the same technique to motivate myself when I’m about to approach something I’m not really sure to be able to accomplish.

There are times though where this technique is not enough and the lack of motivation doesn’t really heal itself. It happens and that’s normal every now and then!

HOW TO GET OUT OF THE LACK OF MOTIVATION LOOP

I’ll share with you my experience as an example.  Before starting uni one of my biggest passions was singing. I went to music school 2/3 times per week, had a band, attended many singing competitions and festivals. Then high school ended and it was finally time to make my life-dream come true: moving and studying abroad.

By making this chioce I knew that singing would have been a secondary priority since the choice I took was to focus on completing my 3-years-bachelor degree. And due to the special uni program I chose, where I changed country every 9 months, it’s wasn’t easy to actually build something like a band or a duo each time.

After two years and a half, when I found myself facing the fact that my voice was not the same: less powerful, precise, and I was missing the control I once had, I was gutted.

After all though, vocal chords are muscles, and if not trained they can’t give the same results as before. I passed from training my voice daily to practically not using it at all. I definitely couldn’t pretend to have my (what I call) “real voice” back after one day, but yes…it sucked… especially realizing that all my past hard work wasn't there anymore.

The way I approached this realization was with as series of questions that helped me get my motivation back.

These 3 questions can help you in any situation you are facing where dissapointment and lack of energy get into the way of your motivation:

#1 EXAMINE WHY YOU ARE FEELING LIKE THIS

Why are you finding yourself unmotivated? Try to make a list of possible reasons.

In my case:
The reason why I had this regression on my voice was that I focused on other aspects of my life, which I was actually happy about. I definitely do not regret taking those decisions.

#2 CAN I DO SOMETHING TO FIX THE SITUATION I AM UNHAPPY ABOUT?

Can you actually do something to improve this situation, maybe by fixing some of the reasons why you’re feeling like this?

In my case:
Of course, I could have fixed the situation! it was about getting back to training and being patient. I was sure that setting up a schedule of exercises would have helped, and like everything in life,
when you start improving you get more motivated to continue.

#3 WOULD FIXING THIS HELP ME FEEL BETTER AND GAIN CONFIDENCE AGAIN?

By fixing these reasons, would you feel more confident and motivated? Write exactly how you’d feel if the situation was as you’d like.

In my case:
Yes, indeed! Not that I pretend to have the lifestyle I had before, but just by re-gaining the voice agility that I had would definitely make me more confident as well as proud of myslef.

So, what are you waiting for?

Okay, it has been quite a long post, kind of a public self-examination feeling but the point is maybe the beauty of not being motivated anymore is actually finding a new way to be motivated again.

What about you, did you ever find yourself in this situation? Which have been your techniques to get back on track and feeling self-confident again? I would love to hear from you!
